Color Me CrAZy!
By Amanda on Nov 16, 2008 in Featured
I just took 7 kids under the age of 5 to Color Me Mine (a paint your own mug place). One 5 year old boy, Two 4 year old boys, Two 2 year old girls, One 1 year old girl, tiny baby Scotty, now 9 weeks old, and 2 other now tired moms. We were soooo out-numbered.
I don’t even think I need to explain any further how those 2 hours went. I think whatever is going on in your mind is exactly what happened, if what’s going on is madness. I don’t think I need to explain all the paint all over EVERYTHING, all the broken pottery, the wrestling match between the 4 year old boys in the middle of the store, the amazing tantrums from the 2 year old girls, the baby puke mixed in with the pretty pink glaze on Papa’s Christmas mug. And I’m sure I don’t need to explain how frazzled we looked walking out, and I am certain you can imagine how relieved the store owners were as they saw our minivans pull out of the parking lot.
Next week I will post the outcome of our masterpieces when we GO BACK to pick them up
I’m SURE it was all worth it, right?

You are a brave mommy!! I have done this once. ONCE. I praise God, and I mean that in all honesty, that the paint your own pottery place couldn’t survive in our little resort town.
I survived another “Sunday night treat” tonight. (In the past I have not mentioned that this tends to include a trip to the grocery store. Taking 4 kids 7 and under to the grocery store is only for the same kind of mom who would take her kids to a paint your own pottery shop) This has gotten interesting again, as daughter #3 is now potty trained. #4 is walking and wants to lick the bathroom floor. Awesome. The kids are loving this new tradition though, and hopefully they won’t hate church. That is the ultimate goal.
Tons of church members have learned about this little tradition. Tonight we ran into several people. Maybe we will get a gift card for Christmas. Is that being presumptuous?
Hope that the pottery is lovely!

ha ha…love the licking the bathroom floor. So true. I can’t count the number of times I’ve found my son trying to pry the squished candies off the floors of public places, squealing in delight when one makes its way to his mouth.
As for the pottery place. Ya, you are crazy!! That’s all I have to say. But good for you…sometimes kids need crazy moms.

Years ago when my college freshman was a toddler we were at an amusement park. We were sitting on bleachers watching a show and I realize Blair is chewing gum. I look at my husband and ask if he gave her gum, which I doubted she was only two, we never gave her gum at that point. No, he said he didn’t give her gum. Then it dawns on me, she has picked up all ready chewed gum from somewhere off the bleacher! UGH!

I have to say that I love to try crazy things like this with my kids. Hey - all kids are so different - you never know what they’ll love. Of course, sometimes, I’m the one throwing the temper tantrum and we have to leave because the kids are too crazy, but other times, it turns out fun and I am pleasantly surprised.
Now, our next attempt is taking my 6-year-old-on-her-next-birthday to the Nutcracker Ballet with 2 other 6 year old friends. Any words of wisdom or warning?
