Amanda MaguireMore PostsVacation Re-Do…

I know I have mentioned earlier that this Christmas season was super busy. And after the craziness blew over Jeff did take some days off to be with our family. However, we (he) did not think thoroughly through the days he was taking off. He took off the week days but not the weekend. Very important ladies!! Note to self: our husbands brains do not shut off if there is a weekend service to be planned. So although he was home, he wasn’t all present all the time. And he DID work so that he could put together the service. Now one month later and his brain is fried, he is still exhausted and (using his words), “giving crappy messages”. So we as a family are having a vacation re-do this next week. He is not preaching this weekend or next weekend so that he can really rest.

Our time-off together is precious, we don’t always have the luxury of spontaneity and it needs to be thoughtfully planned. Lesson learned.

I am blessed to have a re-do. I can hardly wait!

  1. I completely understand. It is amazing when we get a week to ourselves to just be away and not at the church and thinking about church stuff. I pray that your re-do is amazing and full of rest!

  2. Oh yeah, and time off at home never becomes time off here because we’re working on our fixer-upper of a house which is what we can afford (but praise the Lord we actually do have a house, and a job, right?)

And, what about the times that my husband does have a break from a Sunday, but then I have to be plugged in teaching my kids’ class because NO ONE ELSE WILL!!!! He’s the director of all ministry from birth to college–at a church that is growing TOO large for that!! So, I dunno–maybe I’m the teacher by default?? They didn’t get 2-for-1 here except with the youth because that’s my calling, too.

Hopefully you’ll get some sun on your re-do vacation—sorry for the venting, but I know you ladies get it!

  3. I can completely relate… Hubby and I had a ‘very loud conversation’ about his inability to prioritize family stuff, just today. I LOVE the fact that he is following what God has planned for him, and that his ministry is very important. I also have to remind him that although I am here to be his ‘help-meet’ I also need him to pay attention to me and our kids. Because he works a full time job as a plumber, AND works part-time as the Youth Pastor, I really have to grab his face sometimes and emphasize how important it is for him to slow down and spend some personal time with us and also with God. It happens every couple of months… He gets burned out, and then we re-charge… glad to hear that we aren’t the only family doing this… :o )

  4. Hi! Just came across your blog a few weeks ago and love it! When you’re the only youth pastor’s wife in town (which most of us are), life can get lonely. I love reading things you write about that help me identify!

    Have a GREAT vaca redo!

  5. What a blessing for you! I hope you fully enjoy your vacation re-do! Make sure you make lots of memories together!!! I am praying you will all enjoy this time to slow down! :) Amanda- thank you for sharing your life with us–what a blessing!

  6. I know where you should take your vacation to!!!! Come up to the Bay Area!!! I will watch your kiddos and you can go and play! Seriously…how fun would that be!!??!? :)

  7. Last year I married a youth pastor. ALL of my vacation time from my work was spent on youth trips, because he needed me to go. Sharing a bed and room with high school girls is great, but not my idea of an ideal vacation. So when it came time for special days just for the two of us (our anniversary) I could not take off. This year however, we have a vacation already set and planned out. The first time in a year and half! I am counting the days! Enjoy your redo – make sure you turn your phones off!

  8. Last year Sept. 09 I married a youth pastor. It was rough in the beginning and still a little rockie but we manage to pray about things and move on. He want’s a child now and I’m not ready I’m taking BC pills and not telling him. What shall I do.

  9. sorry wrong page.
