Okay, I laughed out loud when I read, "It makes me want to cuss." Seriously, reading the other comments where you all agree makes me laugh even harder--not at your expense, just understanding it all! I only have a 2 year old at this point, but I feel the same way when it seems that my hubby is away during all disaster situations. Should be interesting this summer--no camps for me and Ella this year--what am I going to do? Read your blog and relate, I think! Hang in there!

I know you God probably already answer your prayers and you don't have lice anymore, but just in case they come back :) I have a homemade recipe that never fails. I am from Brazil and there we kill lice with a mixture of vinegar and salt. Your hair will smell horrible for a couple days, but they will die for sure and as your bonus, your hair will shine beautifully :)
God bless you. I love your blog.

So glad you found this blog. I feel your pain and know how shocking the first year of youth ministry marriage can be! It is amazing how people can look right past you and who you are only to see "Pastor's Wife" and whatever that looks like to them. For some that automatically make you some sort of couselor that WANTS to listen, some make you some sort of saint and are constantly disappointed when you can't deliver perfection, and some make nothing of you and only see your husband. It really is such a funny role that no one can be ready for. You just feel your way through it. And your line of defense: a good sense of humor.

Thank you! I went out and bought tea tree oil, tea tree shampoo and conditioner, and tea tree body wash for my entire family. It was quite a pretty penny! Did I go overboard?

Thanks for blogging as a wife. It sounds weird but I really appreciate the honesty of what wives go through in the realm of youth ministry. I am getting married in July this year and really wanted to let her fully understand the gravity of the situation. Thanks for taking the time to write about it and to be honest about things like wantign to cuss! (it's ok...Jesus forgives) :D

hey. i am so glad for your blog! speaking of everything going wrong while your husband is out of town...

last year while my husband was at senior high camp as a counselor, our babysitter was shut down by the state and it came out in the newspapers that she was hiding children in a crawlspace under her porch. so, while he was gone, i had to find a temporary babysitter and deal with being supeona'd by the state department for children and families...

it was a crazy week. oh yea- at least my husband is funny too... i was laughing all week long.

Hi
Just read your blog - so nice to find something I can totally relate to, and not one just for vicars/pastors wives. I am married to a youth pastor (11.5 yrs), we live in London and we have 2 kids, and although he hasn't been away for a while, we do have big troubles with nits and head lice - the little beasts never seem to go away... it's because I don't use the strong chemical stuff. I'm sure you may already know this but, have you tried combing your hair with a nit comb and conditioner with a few drops of tea tree oil in it? The lice don't like tea tree oil, and the conditioner immobilises them so you can get them out. I think cos it's natural, you can probably do it while pregnant. (sorry if you've heard it before!) I can really sympathise with all your comments - it always goes wrong when they are away! :-)

I feel you friend. My husband of 1 1/2 yrs. is a junior high pastor & he his currently out of town on a pastor's retreat. Apparently no wives allowed even though the pastors are all staying at MY family's beach house! I came home yesterday and found the dishwasher from our neighbor's apartment upstairs had been leaking through the ceiling & into my kitchen for over 2 hours. My entire kitchen counter, carpet, and dining table were all drenched in dirty dish water! I now have several bubbles & cracks in my ceiling and tons of water damage, buckets & towels everywhere. All while my husband is away at the beach. I pray against resentment every day.

Hi Amanda! I am a youth pastor's wife in Wyoming and we have 2 year old twins. My husband sent your blog address to me and told me I need to read it.
