My Greatest Gift

Amanda on April 23rd, 2008

There is a wonderful woman at our church, she just happens to be on church staff, and she is our family’s greatest gift! All she does is pray for my family (I know she does more than that in her life), but for us that is how I know her. After a few years I have more of a relationship with her, but at first I didn’t know her at all. All I knew was that she felt God was calling her to pray for my family. So she did. She would bump into me and tell me what she had been praying for and I was astounded, it was just what we were needing. She is amazing. I know I have more strength some days just because of Shelly and her prayers for me and my family.
Do you have someone from the church who prays like crazy for you and your family? Find them! Pray for someone like Shelly for your family. Prayer is a great gift.

I totally agree that prayer is one of the greatest gifts someone can give families like ours. My husband is a wonderful guy and plays alot of roles.. like general handyman for the church and school, sound and media expert, youth pastor, new dad, husband, youth pastor, subsitute teacher, soccer and basketball coach…the list goes on. The only thing is he gets down on himself a good bit. Feels like he can’t do anything right b/c not alot of kids are coming to youth and we are struggling financially to make ends meet with paying off debit and bills. The $$ issues are a big tension point in our relationship. I admit he still acts like a kid in some respects, and I would love for him to really step up more and become a man. I’m finding that I don’t really know how to encourage him b/c alot of what he’s saying and faulting himself for I completely agree with. Any suggestions on how to be supportive and encouraging to him?? We are in a smaller church and he doesn’t really have any friends his age around here to talk with.
Thanks for your prayers!

Karen,

One thing that is helping us when it comes to financial struggles (and we really have them) is Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. This course, held at a local church, has helped us get on and stay on a budget and we are paying off debt, ever so slowly. This is helping our marriage big time because we are both on the same page with this stuff and are helping each other. Even if you can’t take the course right now, the book may be at your library “Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey.
Hang in there, girl!
