Karen,

One thing that is helping us when it comes to financial struggles (and we really have them) is Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. This course, held at a local church, has helped us get on and stay on a budget and we are paying off debt, ever so slowly. This is helping our marriage big time because we are both on the same page with this stuff and are helping each other. Even if you can't take the course right now, the book may be at your library "Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey.
Hang in there, girl!

I agree wholeheartedly about having prayer warriors for our families. Funny thing...we had 2 dear saints from our church and volunteer to pray for us as we are expecting. They have prayed since we found out about our baby....it has been a true blessing. Our daughter was stillborn at 33 weeks 6-29-07. We are due in 2 weeks with our son but were and continue to remain extremely apprehensive about this pregnancy. We gladly accepted any prayer support we could get. However, this one old lady keeps pressuring us to include her initials in our sons's name. Every time she sees us she mentions that K. (her initial) goes with anything. Just a funny little story that prayer partners sometimes want to be a little too involved in our lives. That whole "false intimacy" that happens with staff...definite example.

New to your site. I am a youth minister's wife (to another Jeff, no less :)). Funny thing, for some reason my husband sent me your link...don't know how he came across it but I am glad to "meet" you.

Karen,
I feel for you and your husband. May I suggest that you pick up 1 or 2 books to help you pray for your husband? I would suggest Praying for the Men in Your Life by Suzan Johnson Cook. One thing this book talks about is how to pray for more of the good characteristics in your husband to be brought out. Also, The Power of a Praying Wife is a powerful book. I understand that you may not have the money to buy these books (we too struggle to meet our monthly bills) but your church or local library could possibly get them for you. Blessings to you!

I totally agree that prayer is one of the greatest gifts someone can give families like ours. My husband is a wonderful guy and plays alot of roles.. like general handyman for the church and school, sound and media expert, youth pastor, new dad, husband, youth pastor, subsitute teacher, soccer and basketball coach...the list goes on. The only thing is he gets down on himself a good bit. Feels like he can't do anything right b/c not alot of kids are coming to youth and we are struggling financially to make ends meet with paying off debit and bills. The $$ issues are a big tension point in our relationship. I admit he still acts like a kid in some respects, and I would love for him to really step up more and become a man. I'm finding that I don't really know how to encourage him b/c alot of what he's saying and faulting himself for I completely agree with. Any suggestions on how to be supportive and encouraging to him?? We are in a smaller church and he doesn't really have any friends his age around here to talk with.
Thanks for your prayers!
