i am the j-high youth pastor at our church. this past sunday i preached at the "adult" worship service and had a few people come up to me afterwards wondering how long i worked at the church... it's been over a year. o well, anonymity can be a good thing - i actually enjoy it - it comes with its own set of perks. :)

Oh, I could relate! We are at a medium size church and still get that. My husband is on back to back trips right now-last week junior high church camp, this week senior high mission trip. He was home less than 48 hours in between. I barely had enough time to get the laundry done. The only perks I have found, left over pizza after youth events. Maybe better list of trusted babysitters. Oh, on a serious note, more adults invested in my own kids lives, we are closer to his co-workers and volunteer youth leaders than probably the working world's dad's co-workers.

I'm glad you're able to laugh about it! My husband and I have had the opposite reaction in our town. My advice... be at the big church in the small town. ;) God Bless!

I'm a pastor's wife AND a youth pastor myself, with a 2 1/2 year old. I face some of the same issues being "just" the youth minister, plus the separation from ministry with my husband AND I am now a frumpy mom who talks about kid stuff while youth look at me like I'm a nut.

My husband pastors two small churches and I work at a third which means my daughter and I rarely worship with him. We are separate most of the time.

Life is messy isn't it. I'm looking for a para church ministry job closer to where my husband and I live which will allow us to worship as a family. I know that then I will face all kinds of separation trauma!

God bless you!

Oh I love it when people say oh he's just the youth pastor. then I ask them if they'd like to volunteer and teach Junior High Sunday School. That usually changes the tune, all of the sudden the youth minister is much more important.
