The List

Amanda on August 3rd, 2008

About 4 weeks ago I made a list. It looks like this:

Sunday sheets/laundry
Monday dust/laundry
Tuesday bathrooms/laundry
Wednesday kitchen/laundry
Thursday floors/laundry
Friday free day
Saturday vacuum/laundry

I thought it would be helpful for me to stay on task. I was pretty good about it the first week, maybe doing 80%. The second week I was pretty frustrated because I couldn’t keep up with the list, maybe doing 10%. The third week I just ignored the list all together, doing maybe 5%. This week each time I look at the list I laugh out loud, I expect to do maybe 0%, and then throw the frickin list away!

I have tried that too, without any success. One thing that sometimes works for me is to make a master list for the week of everything I would need to do to clean the house. Then when I have a free moment during a nap (remember I only have one child, but I do work from home, which complicates nap time and cleaning) I can look at the list and choose one or two things to do. That way if in that moment I really don’t feel like dusting, I can choose something else instead of giving up on the list all together. My house is pretty messy though, so it may not be a great plan :-)

Going back to the list. I too have done that so many times. It never works because I don’t even get the time to look at it after I made it. Sometimes I feel like I live is disaster zone. How do you balance Full time nurse, Full time helper to husbands youth work, full time helper to husbands photography (that he dose on the side to help bring in money), and my mother (who can’t support herself and we are currently building an addition to our house for) that has lived with us for a year? I don’t seem to find time to clean house and don’t know what me time is. Oh I forgot I am also taking an online class. Is it just my opinion or am I set up for overload?
