Vacations for dummies…

Amanda on February 5th, 2009

Now a few days back in the real world swing of things. Back to being married to a youth pastor, I have been reflecting on our time off and some of the other vacation days that we have had. I am realizing that its hard to take time off. Not just the expense of it. But to really relax, forget about the stress. Truly remove yourself from life and just u n w i n d.

My expectation of a great vacation would be returning to the regular pace of life rejuvenated and with a fresh perspective on life and work, and for me motherhood. But that is a pretty steep order to cook up and a lot of pressure to put on one little vacation, right?

Sometimes for me, if I have time away I really don’t even to know what to do with myself. I usually do dumb stuff and then feel like I wasted my day off.

I would love to take a class on this one and have someone tell me how to have the perfect relaxing vacation (and then pay for it, the class and the vacation). Why is vacation so hard for me?..and I think maybe I’m not alone on this one.

I am telling you, this is the perfect vacation:

Come to the Bay Area. Drop your kids off with me and go play in the Bay Area with Jeff. Come back and see the kids – maybe take them to the San Fran zoo or the Exploratorium. Take a family hike through Muir Woods (which is flattened for strollers). Then, ditch the kids to go to Napa, Big Sur, Monterey, anywhere…so many options. Later, Jeff can go surfing in the good waves up here while you and I have a day to relax. A final date night at a fun restaurant in downtown SF completes the trip. Perfect. (I should be a vacation planner.) Ahhhh, next time. :)

I went to the site to vote for Erin… it looked like they had won! Did you Erin?
