Sounds like a dream! I have a 5 month old and I feel like I haven't slept in well, 5 months!:) Being youth ministers though, it is like we can't even afford a vacation away, so we don't go. Our local Christian radio station is hosting a contest right now to reenact your engagement and have people vote and the winner gets a cruise, so we entered the contest, now we are just praying that we can win!:) Ahhhh a cruise, actually ahhh anytime away at all!:) Ps...if you want to help out go to:http://www.wibi.org/contests/promise%2Dof%2Da%2Dlifetime/view-entry.cfm?entryKey=6 and vote for us! When I have a "day off" I refer to this list of things I'd really like to do. This list is made up of the things we all say when we're terribly busy and we'd really rather just be ___________ (fill in the blank) (...mine's usually reading a book while curled up under a blanket on the couch). "Days Off" are when you redeem this wish, but the key is (1) doing something on that list, (2) and as you're doing it remembering that this is something you said you'd really like to be doing at one point in time, (3) then, don't regret it or feel lazy or guilty - enjoy it, get in to it. I can’t help with your vacation woes, but I can help with your “Days Off.”

All find themselves in my head when it's time for a vacation. With preschoolers--isn't that the hardest time to find this? At home vacations seem to end up being not too restful for us, either. Even a day off seems to fail if we fail to plan. I think the rest of our life is so over-scheduled and planned, that when it comes to vacation, we just don't want to do it anymore. Often camps and conference centers will let pastors and their families stay at a reduced rate--so that's where we start. Yes, Hawaii would be nice, but it's not realistic. So, we go for cabins, guest houses people offer, conference centers. And allow for no planning. Okay maybe a little, so the preschoolers won't go crazy:) Also, we have to be sure to spend some time away from our kids--I have to remind myself that I married my husband before kids--that was a carefree life, right? Granted I do not have children which will make this even harder but I'm not a teacher and do not get any vacation time for practically 9 months and my husband gets 1 week off this summer inbetween camps and missions trips and weekend services so i have been searching for WEEKS for the perfect 1 week vacation to get AWAY! :) It's still in the works but hte planning alone is getting too stressful. we are actually coming out to visit mariners with our youth staff in April before we go to a conference close by so I am excited to get to see what your husband and you do in action :) agreed!! Drop your kids off with me and go play in the Bay Area with Jeff. Come back and see the kids - maybe take them to the San Fran zoo or the Exploratorium. Take a family hike through Muir Woods (which is flattened for strollers). Then, ditch the kids to go to Napa, Big Sur, Monterey, anywhere...so many options. Later, Jeff can go surfing in the good waves up here while you and I have a day to relax. A final date night at a fun restaurant in downtown SF completes the trip. Perfect. (I should be a vacation planner.) Ahhhh, next time. :) I am telling you, this is the perfect vacation:
